Moving Towards an Accessible Website 

The 15th BLN Breakfast Series Event sponsored by TD Bank Group

The June 10th Business Leadership Network Breakfast Series Event was a tremendous success. Special thanks to TD Bank Group for sponsoring the event. The featured topic for the morning was highly popular and educational—Moving Towards an Accessible Website—The Road to Accessibility, It’s the Right Thing to Do.

Our objective for attendees included: Introduction to Accessible Design; Why Inclusive Design is an Economic Driver for Business; Understand the Importance of Web Channel Accessibility; Information on Web Accessibility Myths and Realities; Review of World Wide Web Consortium Web Standards; Overview of WCAG2.0 Guidelines and Standards; Developer Guidelines for Accessible Office Documents; ATAG 2.0 Authoring Tool Accessible Guidelines; Personalized Accessibility by Users with Personal Preference Profiles; and finally, an Overview of Links and Resources for Web and Document Accessibility.

Numbers Attending 
We were sold out for the event with 118 in attendance. New organizations who attended were: . Rise Asset Development; Taris Incorporated; Magnusmode Limited; Sare and Associates; the Fairmont Royal York Hotel; MICA Phoenix Solutions Inc.; the Greater Toronto Airport Authority; Ernst and Young; Toronto Catholic School Board; TLATSOI; Job Postings Magazine; and the Ontario Historical Society. Over 59 different employer organizations were represented.

Attendee Post Event Survey Results
Electronic surveys were sent out to all attendees. Here are the results:

  • 95% indicated that presenter Jutta Treviranus was good or excellent.
  • 88% indicated that Jan Richards was good or excellent.
  • 83% indicated the coordination of the event was good or excellent.
  • 86% indicated the overall running of the event was good or excellent.
  • 93% indicated they would recommend a BLN event to a colleague in the future.

Conclusion
Again, one of the best attended events to date. Official thank-you letters were sent out to all facilitators, MC, welcomers and closing speakers behalf of JOIN. Again, a very heartfelt thank you to TD Bank Group for its financial support for the event. Over 40 percent of attendees indicated they would like to become a BLN member – we are in the process of contacting all attendees.
